Family stars align for Anthony Cummings

Anthony Cummings has been patient with dual Group One winner Fiveandahalfstar and even more cautious with his younger sister Ritzy.

An upset winner of the 2012 Victoria Derby and successful in the 2013 BMW as favourite, Fiveandahalfstar has had his share of injury problems and failed to run a place in four autumn starts but remained sound.

By the Cummings-trained Group One winner Hotel Grand out of Cryptic Miss, Fiveandahalfstar has won $2.6 million, a great return on his $20,000 yearling price.

His deeds pushed Medaglia D'Oro filly Ritzy up to $500,000 when she went through the sale ring but a twisted ankle put paid to her debut in February.

"Fiveandahalfstar is back in the stable and looks good," Cummings said.

"But it's his half-sister Ritzy who might be the star.

"She will go to the trials this week and we'll work out a program for her.

"I've always thought she would be better at three than at two.

"She is a valuable filly and we have looked after her and given her the time she needs."

Cummings will map out a spring program for Fiveandahalfstar and he also has ambitious plans for Skyline Blush who brought up her third win in five starts at Randwick on Saturday.

The filly broke her maiden over 1400 metres at Kembla Grange on May 16 and stepped up to 2000 metres at Randwick.

"Now we know she can run 2000 metres it opens up options for her," Cummings said.

"There are some nice mares' races for her in the spring and we will look at all of them.

"She may have a short break or we may run her again as a three-year-old."
