Williams gets early treble at Flemington

Saturday 11 July 2015, 2:11pm

Craig Williams, striving to win his fifth Melbourne jockeys' premiership, has played a starring role on the first half of Final Days at Flemington.

Williams started Saturday's meeting one win behind Dwayne Dunn in the Melbourne title race but has landed three victories in the first four races.

Williams started his winning run on Illustrious Lad in the A R Creswick Series Final.

He then guided the Luke Oliver-trained Jessy Belle and Darren Weir-trained Falago to success in the next two races.

Jessy Belle was brave under 58kg to win the Leilani Series Final (1400m) before Falago ground home over 2000m to win the VRC-CRV Cup Tour Trophy by two lengths.

"Both of those last two horses have been well targeted and well prepared and their trainers have done a great job with them," Williams said.

"Credit goes to the horses' determination because they didn't have the sweetest of runs and they were still able to deliver strong wins."
