Schweida lines up promising Golden Falls

Trainer Kelly Schweida believes the handicappers have weighted promising filly Golden Falls up to her best at Doomben on Saturday.

Golden Falls went up 10 ratings points for her 1350m win at Doomben on June 27 when she stormed home from the rear of the field to beat the favourite, Lucky Tom, by two lengths.

She goes into Saturday's Food & Wine Hcp over the same trip with a 74 rating.

"To go up so much in the ratings is a pretty hefty whack. I know it was a very good win but still it is a big leap," Schweida said.

"She is carrying 56.5kg on Saturday against some good horses and we have drawn barrier 17. If the emergencies don't get a run we will be in to 11 but that is still a task."

Schweida said despite the barrier Golden Falls would run on Saturday and then a campaign would be mapped put.

"We are thinking about going south but our horses are at a real disadvantage at the ratings when they go south."

"She is a very good filly and the owners are breeders, so obviously we will be looking at black-type races."

Golden Falls, who is by Encosta De Lago out of The Golden Dane, is raced by the Hutchins family, whose best horse was multiple Group One winner Typhoon Tracy.

Glen Colless will again ride Golden Falls and Schweida believes his measured style suits the filly, especially in what will be a big field on Saturday.

"You will see big fields to the end of the season in the three-year-olds, but Golden Falls is not a QTIS bonus horse," Schweida said.

Meanwhile, Schweida is likely to start last start Sunshine Coast winner Tiger Dimejan in the 1050m Become a BRC Member Handicap, despite her also drawing wide.

"It was a good win first-up but again the our barrier luck continued when she drew eight in a field of nine," Schweida said.
