Luke Dittman's city focus pays off

Thursday 9 July 2015, 9:40am

Apprentice Luke Dittman's decision to concentrate on metropolitan racing has paid dividends with a top book of rides at Doomben.

Dittman, the son of former champion rider Mick Dittman, has had a good season, riding 38 winners with a winning strike rate of 18 per cent.

While mainly riding at the provincial meetings he has still ridden nine city winners this season and can claim three kilograms in the metropolitan area.

Dittman will ride likely favourites Seeking More in the 1050m Become a Member Handicap and former Sydney horse Riva De Lago in the Hamilton Hotel Handicap over 1350m on Saturday.

He has also been booked for Lesley's Choice for his master Toby Edmonds, one of the favourites in the opening race on the card.

"It is obviously good to get a strong book of rides but now it is time to make the most of them," Dittman said.

Meanwhile, Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea hopes a sharp drop in class can help promising mare Doula record her first metropolitan win.

Doula is another of the well-bred sprinters from Tregea's small team which is also noted for its consistency.

Doula won four of her five starts in very good fashion at the provincial tracks before being far from disgraced when fifth to Seeking More over the 1050m a fortnight ago.

She is by the late mare Kimash who is closely related to Canterbury Guineas winner Fine Society.

"She used to tie up badly and I still have to watch her. But she is back against her own sex on Saturday," Tregea said.
