Hugh Bowman to ride in Singapore Derby

Wednesday 1 July 2015, 8:28am

Leading Sydney jockey Hugh Bowman will get the chance to add to his Group One tally with the ride on Fastnet Dragon in the Singapore Derby.

Bowman ended the Australian Group One season as the leading rider with nine wins at the highest level.

Fastnet Dragon's owner Zhao Song was forced to find a new rider when Alan Munro decided to stick with pre-race favourite War Affair in the Derby on July 12.

In previous visits to Singapore, Bowman has finished second on Bel Sprinter in the KrisFlyer Sprint and third on Mawingo in the Singapore Airlines International Cup.

"I was approached by the connections to ride their horse. I don't know them personally, neither do I know why they picked me, but I accepted straight away as it's always good to get another chance to come and ride in Singapore," Bowman told the Singapore Turf Club.
