VRC signs vision agreement

Sunday 21 June 2015, 7:08pm

Channel Seven will begin broadcasting Victorian racing free-to-air this week with the Victoria Racing Club formally agreeing to the deal.

Racing Victoria recommended Seven West Media as it broadcasting partner but, until Sunday, the VRC had not joined the Moonee Valley Racing Club, Melbourne Racing Club or Country Racing Victoria in signing the agreement.

RV said it would continue to negotiate with the TAB-owned Sky Channel for coverage on its wall-to-wall channel which has been blacked out for the past week.

The Victorian thoroughbred racing will be shown via Seven's new channel 78.

Until August 29 when its full service begins, the channel will re-transmit the digital service from racing.com as an interim measure.

"This paves the way for the Victorian industry to achieve its future goal of ensuring that Victorian thoroughbred racing can be viewed in every lounge room and on every mobile phone across Australia," RV chief executive Bernard Saundry said.

"The interim solution won't be perfect," Saundry said.

"There will be people in regional areas that cannot access the interim coverage, but this is an important first step in getting our races back on television."
