Ramornie Handicap looms for Dothraki

Saturday 20 June 2015, 5:01pm

Dothraki has cemented a Ramornie Handicap start and kept his unblemished Gold Coast record intact with victory in the Tattersall's 150th Anniversary Stakes.

Dothraki, the $3.50 favourite in Saturday's Group Three 1200m sprint, held off Target In Sight ($4.60) to win by a short neck with Rocket To Glory ($21) 3-1/4 lengths away third.

Co-trainer Peter Snowden said Dothraki would be aimed at the Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 8.

"That's the race we've had targeted for him since he came into work this campaign," Snowden said.

"He looks an ideal horse for the Ramornie and hopefully the handicapper won't get to him after winning this race."

It was Dothraki's second win from as many starts at the Gold Coast, adding to his Guineas win last year.

Jockey Damian Browne said Dothraki was inclined to stargaze when he hit the front in the straight.

"I probably got to the front too early and he half want to loaf and look around a bit," Browne said.

"When the second horse loomed up he dug deep and fought him off."

Zac Purton was confident Target In Sight was going to win when he ranged alongside Dothraki in the straight.

"I thought he was going to win by a length and a half but to the winner's credit he was a bit too strong," Purton said.

Dothraki is the third horse raced by Triple Crown Syndications to win for the Peter and Paul Snowden stable during the winter carnival after Hot Snitzel (BTC Cup) and Charlie Boy (BRC Sprint).
