Seymour track unsafe as racing abandoned

Thursday 18 June 2015, 3:02pm

Racing at the Victorian country racetrack Seymour has been called off due to visibility issues.

Stewards abandoned Thursday's meeting following the second race after consulting jockeys who declared it unsafe to continue riding.

"There's some fill in the track from its previous meetings and unfortunately that's kicking back," steward Wade Hadley told Racing Live.

"The jockeys that are behind the speed, further back than third or fourth, are having trouble with their visibility to the stage where we've had a rider get (onto) heels in the second race due to that.

"Jockeys' safety and the welfare of the horses comes first and that's the reason we've taken the steps we have."
