Kareeming after hat-trick of city wins

Pat Carey is mindful in-form Kareeming has had a lengthy preparation but will give him at least one more start before sending him for a break.

The four-year-old is chasing a metropolitan hat-trick in a heat of the Banjo Paterson Series over 2500 metres at Flemington on Saturday.

He stepped up to the distance for the first time at Moonee Valley on May 30, winning by a short head after overhauling race leader Black Jag who is among his opposition again.

Kareeming's Moonee Valley win on May 30 came after he scored over 2000m at Caulfield two weeks earlier.

"The horse looks particularly well and he is handling his racing well," Carey said.

"I think this race is a stronger race with some pretty tough old customers in there like Crafty Cruiser, and I think Black Jag will improve.

"But I can't see any reason to not run him and give him every chance again because he's in form."

To be ridden by leading apprentice Patrick Moloney who has been aboard for the stayer's past two wins, Kareeming is pressing De Little Engine for favouritism.

Carey is not sure whether to push Kareeming further into the winter, given his preparation began in early March.

"He's a four-year-old who looks to have a bright future. You're very conscious about going to the well too many times," he said.

Carey has trained four metropolitan winners in the past two weeks with Kareeming forming part of a winning double for the stable at Moonee Valley on May 30, while the trainer also had a double at Mornington on Monday.
