Rocky King set to find top form in Bribie

Thursday 14 May 2015, 11:33am

Rocky King is showing all the signs he is ready to regain his crown as a short-course star of the Sunshine Coast.

Rocky King has drawn barrier one in Saturday's Listed Bribie Handicap (1000m).

An $11,000 yearling, the gelding has won 13 races and $404,000 prize money with 12 of his victories over 1000m.

Rocky King was unbeaten at his first four starts over 1000m at the Sunshine Coast and held the course record for the trip until recently.

However, at his last attempt at the Sunshine Coast 1000m he finished a well-beaten fifth behind Lucky Meteor.

Trainer Tom Bourke gave Rocky King one more start for an unplaced run at Doomben in late March before turning him out for a spell.

"Rocky King was knocked about a bit in a trip to Melbourne where nothing went right," Bourke said.

"He came back to the Sunshine Coast and won well but his next two starts he was a bit flat so we spelled him.

"I get the feeling he is back near his best for Saturday and drawing the rails is a big plus."

Tegan Harrison will be reunited with Rocky King for the Bribie.

"She has won on him and also was on him when he ran second in the Ramornie at Grafton last year," Bourke said.

Rocky King will press on to the Lightning Stakes at Doomben on May 30 before moving up to 1200m in the Healy Stakes and Ramornie in June and July.
