Brisbane campaign off the radar for Gust

Wednesday 13 May 2015, 2:15pm

Trust In A Gust may have run his last race after being ruled out of two Group One events during the Queensland winter carnival.

The four-year-old was to make his Brisbane debut in the BTC Cup at Doomben last Saturday, but was scratched after failing to make a flight from Melbourne the day before.

Trust In A Gust played up when loaded onto the plane and had cuts and abrasions.

He returned to trainer Darren Weir's Ballarat stables.

The decision to end Trust In A Gust's Brisbane campaign was made in consultation with Adam Sangster whose Swettenham Stud will stand the future stallion when retired from racing.

Weir said Trust In A Gust hadn't missed any work but doubted whether the horse would be 100 per cent for Brisbane.

Trust In A Gust was nominated for the Doomben 10,000 on May 23 and the Stradbroke Handicap on June 6.

"In the best interests of the horse, Adam has decided to stop this preparation," Weir said.

"It's now in the hands of Adam to see what he wants to do with him, whether he wants to retire him to stud or race on.

"Even though he worked this morning we didn't know if we could get the work into him going into those races in Queensland."

Trust In A Gust won the Group One double of Sir Rupert Clarke and Toorak Handicap at Caulfield last spring and first-up off a break ran a narrow second to Red Bomber at Caulfield on April 18.

The son of Keep The Faith has won 10 of his 18 starts and almost $1.15 million in prize money.
