Barriers and track ratings will determine where Coronation Shallan has her first-up on Saturday.

The daughter of Strategic has been nominated for races in Melbourne and Adelaide.

Coronation Shallan hasn't raced since finishing second over 1600m at Moonee Valley in January and trainer Brett Scott said the mare has been working well in readiness for a return to racing.

The mare has been nominated for the Leilani Series Heat 1 over 1200m at Caulfield as well as the Proud Miss Stakes over 1200m at Morphettville.

She will be asked to carry 58.5kg in the Caulfield race and under the set weights and penalties conditions of the Group Three Proud Miss, just 55.5kg.

Scott said there were pluses and minuses attached to both races and he was likely to accept at both venues before making a final decision.

"The owner is pretty keen to have a go at some more black-type races which would lean us towards Adelaide," Scott said.

"But we need to weigh up the track conditions as well.

"She doesn't like it too wet and that would probably throw us towards Caulfield a little bit as it is a good draining track.

"We'll have a look at the weights and the make up of the fields, look at the barriers and make up our minds after that.

A champion jumps jockey before turning to training after injury forced him from the saddle, Scott has has been slowly building his numbers and winners with each season.

But it has been a while since Coronation Shallan has found the winners' enclosure despite her consistent form when last in training.

Her most recent success came at Moonee Valley in November 2013, but Scott is confident there are more wins in store.

"She's got the ability and if she gets luck wherever she runs on Saturday I'm sure she'll acquit herself well," he said.
