Trainer Steve O'Dea has put aside the disappointment of missing the Doomben Cup with Sir Moments to look to the future.

The multiple stakes winner had been the third favourite for the Cup after running an impressive second to Leebaz in the Hollindale Stakes at the Gold Coast on April 25.

But he suffered lacerations after getting his leg tangled on the water walker last week and O'Dea was left with no choice but to miss the Doomben Cup won by Pornichet on Saturday.

"It means we can give him a good spell and then look ahead for his future campaign," O'Dea said.

"I have said all along he is a big baby. Once he puts it all together you are going to see some racehorse.

"A long break won't do him any harm as we had to hurry him after he raced in Sydney in December to get him ready for the winter."

Some of the options for Sir Moments later this year include the Epsom Handicap in Sydney or the Emirates Classic at Flemington.

"It might be dreaming a bit but he might develop into a horse not far off a Cox Plate," O'Dea said."
