West Australian jockey Chris Parnham landed his first Flemington winner when he piloted San Amaro to success on Saturday.
Parnham showed his wares in Melbourne as an apprentice late last year, riding Tried And Tired to a Listed race victory at Sandown before transferring to the Wez Hunter stable in early January.
Riding without a claim after settling in Melbourne, he came out of his apprenticeship last month.
"It's a big thrill. It's the headquarters of Australian racing and I'm glad I can go home saying I've ridden a winner at Flemington," Parnham said.
Parnham said he has no immediate plans to return to Perth.
"I will go home eventually but I don't have plans at this stage.
"I have had some good opportunities and I've got a really good manager.
"I've also had some really good support from three or four stables which has helped greatly."
One of those stables is the father-and-daughter team of Colin and Cindy Alderson, who prepare San Amaro.
Cindy Alderson said San Amaro ($10) was now likely to head for a spell after scoring a long head victory from Rock Spur ($10) with Secret Blend ($21) a long neck away third.
"Three wins in any campaign is a good effort," she said.
"He was shin sore at his first race start so this is really his first campaign so I think put him away for now."
Alderson praised Parnham's initiative in taking a sit behind a solid tempo that was carved out by the $4.20 favourite Heza Chaka that had to work hard early.
