Red Cadeaux off to Hong Kong

Sunday 12 April 2015, 5:37pm

Red Cadeaux will accompany Criterion on the plane to Hong Kong with the two horses to lock horns again in the QE II Cup.

Criterion was a clear winner of Saturday's $4 million Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick with the popular Red Cadeaux giving chase late to finish second.

He was 2-1/2 lengths behind Criterion but a decisive 1-1/4 lengths ahead of third placed Royal Descent.

Trainer Ed Dunlop is on his way home to England while the three-time Melbourne Cup runner-up Red Cadeaux will be flown to Hong Kong on Monday for the Group One race on April 26.

Dunlop took time out on a stopover to tweet the latest on Red Cadeaux and said he would return to Australia for a sixth time.

"Hi from Abu Dhabi!! RC will now run next in HK in QE11. Thank you to all that looked after him and my team so well in AUS.We will be back," Dunlop said.

Criterion's owner Sir Owen Glenn and co-trainer David Hayes are keen to go to Royal Ascot with the four-year-old.

"He will run in either the Prince Of Wales's Stakes over 2000 metres or the mile race (Queen Anne)," Hayes said.

"He ran so well in Hong Kong in December that we want to take him there again.

"He is a great traveller and a world class horse."

Red Cadeaux's second prize of $750,000 took his earnings to almost $A8.1 million.

His Queen Elizabeth second vindicated the decision by his Hong Kong owner Ron Arculli and Dunlop to run over 2000 metres rather than take on the 3200 metres of the Sydney Cup on a wet track.
