Doncaster Mile - what the jockeys said

Monday 6 April 2015, 5:43pm

What the jockeys said after the Doncaster Mile won by the Chris Waller-trained Kermadec:

GLEN BOSS - Kermadec (1st): "He gave me a good feel from the time I got on him. He jumped really well, that was a big plus. There was hardly a run (in the straight) and we had to really bullock (through) so he was quite brave."

JAMES MCDONALD - Real Impact (2nd): "Super. He's an awesome horse to ride."

JOAO MOREIRA - Royal Descent (3rd): "I was wide all the way through and she put on a good fight with the big guys so very impressed with her run."

LUKE TARRANT - Rudy (4th): "I thought I had them on the turn but he was outsprinted at the 100 metres."

KERRIN MCEVOY - Pornichet (5th): "I got a nice run through with the winner, just found them a bit sharp that last furlong."

CHAD SCHOFIELD - Arabian Gold (6th): "She ran pretty well. I had to wait for a gap and when she got it she found the line nicely."

COREY BROWN Suavito (7th): "She ran well, she just never handled it (wet track) a stride. She dipped and dived the whole race and did a good job to finish where she did."

NICK HALL - World Ace (8th): "Very good today, much improved. He needs further and maybe ride him a bit closer."

ZAC PURTON - Sacred Falls (9th): "He came into it OK but in the straight, when he was put under pressure, he just didn't finish off."

TOMMY BERRY - Hallowed Crown (10th): "He just had too much work to do from where he was. Nothing took me into the race."

PAUL KING - Leebaz (11th): "He jumped straight in the air as the gates opened instead of flattening out ... he had a nice run after that, got a nice run all the way through but it cost him a few lengths early."

DAMIEN OLIVER - Happy Trails (12th): "He went OK considering the heavy ground."

DOM TOURNEUR - Hooked (13th): "Disappointing. Didn't let down today and didn't like the going."

TIM CLARK - Cosmic Endeavour (14th): "She tried hard, she just didn't run the mile."

THOMAS HUET - Diamond Drille (15th): "Not a lot of excuses, behind the favourite and couldn't pass him."

CRAIG NEWITT - Puccini (16th): "He went OK. He got back and over-raced a little bit."

KATHY O'HARA - Plucky Belle (17th): "She just didn't really perform today."

CRAIG WILLIAMS - Destiny's Kiss (18th): "I know he is a staying type of horse but I thought he was still disappointing."

SAM CLIPPERTON - Sweynesse (19th): "I don't know what to make of that. He had a great run, he travelled beautiful through the race and there was just nothing there."

DWAYNE DUNN - Ninth Legion: (20th) "Just didn't handle the track at all today."
