Moody on a Hi after Carbine Club Stakes

Monday 6 April 2015, 12:57pm

Kerrin McEvoy's initiative has helped Hi World win the Carbine Club Stakes to open the door for the Victorian colt to make another Sydney autumn carnival appearance.

McEvoy opted to take Hi World to the front and it proved a winning move with the three-year-old kicking strongly to fend off the challenge of runner-up Farolitos by a short neck at Randwick.

"It wasn't our intention to lead but (McEvoy) knew he was on a fit horse," trainer Peter Moody said.

"But I think we will see a better performance from him from behind, he's probably floated a little bit the length of the straight but was still good enough to get the job done."

Following the race-morning scratchings of Sweynesse and Kermadec who secured starts in the Doncaster Mile, Hi World started $3.20 favourite.

McEvoy said the colt didn't give him the easiest ride.

"He did a good job because he didn't settle that well for me," McEvoy said.

"He gave a good kick at the 300 (metres) and was good through the line.

"He's a genuine little horse who might go to Brisbane and find himself competitive up there."

Moody is less certain about where to head as he tosses up between the Frank Packer Plate at Randwick on April 18 and a trip to Brisbane .

The winner's stablemate Inauguration was first-up in the 1600m race and found the line to grab third with Moody confirming he would be set on a traditional path towards the Queensland Derby.
