Dear Demi ready for Coolmore Classic

Monday 9 March 2015, 6:18pm

Dear Demi holds a special place in the Clarry Conners stable and the trainer wants nothing more than to see her win another Group One race.

But he admits it will be tough in Saturday's Coolmore Classic at Rosehill in which three-year-old First Seal, the Doncaster Mile favourite, is destined to dominate betting.

The winner of the 2012 VRC Oaks, Dear Demi is having the second start of a campaign aimed at the Doomben Cup in May and is the highest rated of the 15 fillies and mares entered on Monday for the Coolmore (1500m).

The five-year-old finished fifth in the Guy Walter Stakes on February 28, less than three lengths from the winner Danesiri, a John Thompson-trained stablemate of First Seal.

"I was a bit disappointed she didn't go better first-up," Conners said.

"She was up too close in a fast-run race but she still went OK.

"And she has come out of the race well. I will give her a nice gallop in the morning to top her off.

"First Seal will be very hard to beat but we will be trying."

Myer Classic winner Bonaria is among the nominations but her trainer Pat Hyland says she will run at Flemington instead.

Chris Waller has entered Thousand Guineas winner Amicus and Winx, runner-up to First Seal in the Flight Stakes, and has also put the fillies in the Group Two Phar Lap Stakes over the same distance.

"I'm not sure where they will run," Waller said.

"Both are ready for 2000 metres and I'm looking for the best race as a lead-up to the Vinery Stud Stakes two weeks later."

Winx is also among the 19 entries for Friday's Group Three Keith Nolan Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange.
