RANDWICK GUINEAS

HISTORY

* First leg of Sydney autumn three-year-old triple crown which also comprises Rosehill Guineas (2000m) and ATC Australian Derby (2400m)

* Replaced the Canterbury Guineas, raced over 1900m from 1935-2005

* Renamed Randwick Guineas in 2006 when moved to Randwick and distance shortened to 1600m

* Hotel Grand won inaugural Randwick Guineas while Mentality scored in 2007

* Ilovethiscity won when it was run at Warwick Farm in 2011

TALKING POINTS

* Kermadec has been scratched, leaving a field of seven. It will be smallest field to contest race since it was first run.

* Less than half a length separated Hallowed Crown, Sweynesse and Shooting To Win in Hobartville Stakes. All three return for Randwick Guineas clash.

PATTERN

* Tactics will be interesting with no noted leader. Shooting To Win and Scissor Kick are likely to be prominent but neither is a natural frontrunner. Jim Cassidy rides outsider Rhodin Drive and is a jockey unafraid to inject pace into a race.

FANCIED RUNNERS

* Hallowed Crown and Shooting To Win equal favourites. Hallowed Crown facing first test at a mile but is a Group One Golden Rose winner over 1400m. Shooting To Win has proven his Group One credentials at the trip with a Caulfield Guineas victory. Sweynesse looks value runner.
