Sunshine Coast track to suit Forster pair

Thursday 5 March 2015, 2:25pm

Trainer Desleigh Forster is looking forward to seeing up-and-coming gallopers I'm Hector and I'm Belucci on a big track for the first time at the Sunshine Coast.

Forster has a big opinion of both horses but admits she won't know exactly where to head with them until she sees how they perform on Saturday.

I'm Hector, who will line up in the Devcon Building Plate (2200m), won his first start at Ipswich over 1350m then flashed home late for second over 1666m at the same venue.

Forster is adamant I'm Hector has the makings of a top stayer.

"I know it is an ask to put him over 2200-metres at his third race start but he is a big horse and I have been wanting to see him on a big track," Forster said.

"He is bred to stay and I think later in his career he can win a good race."

I'm Hector is raced by Forster's long-time client Judy Wanless who also bred the four-year-old.

"Judy has been very patient with him because he needed time to grow. She should reap the rewards now," Forster said.

The gelding is by noted staying side Teofilo whose Australian progeny include last year's Queensland Derby winner Sonntag.

Forster also expects the expanses of the Sunshine Coast track to suit I'm Belucci.

The juvenile came from second last on the corner to finish runner-up over 1110m at his only start at Doomben in January.

He was scheduled to race there again three weeks ago but the meeting was washed out.

I'm Belucci is by the late stallion Captain Sonador who is starting to make his mark as a sire with two winners in the past fortnight.

"I'm Belucci has been freshened up and I think the big track will suit him," Forster said.

"The Captain Sonadors seem to be getting better as the two-year-old distances get longer."

I'm Belucci will be aimed towards the feature two-year-old races during the Brisbane winter carnival if he performs well on Saturday.
