Burnstone to head to Prelude

Monday 2 February 2015, 6:17pm

Impressive debut winner Burnstone is to have one more run before he tackles the $1 million Blue Diamond Stakes.

Trainer Robbie Griffiths had toyed with the idea of heading straight to the Group One Blue Diamond (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28 after Burstone scored a widening 3-1/2 length victory in the colts and geldings Preview (1000m) at Sandown a week ago,

Griffiths said the two-year-old had recovered quickly from the run and would now head to the Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) at Caulfield's return meeting on February 14.

He said Burnstone had licked out his feed bin following the race and the next morning looked as though he hadn't even raced.

Griffiths also said Burnstone went into his debut run weighing 432 kg and returned home at the same weight, and has continued to put weight on since.

"He's come through the run so well," Griffiths said.

"He was very fresh on Saturday and he'll need another run before the Diamond.

"I think he will get too above himself being a colt with almost five weeks between races and I don't think it will hurt him going to the Prelude, otherwise I'd just be trialling him at home anyway.

"His signs are really encouraging."

Burnstone was promoted to the third line of betting at $8 for the Blue Diamond following his win with fellow Preview winner Fontiton holding favouritism at $4.60 ahead of the Mick Price-trained Secret Agenda at $5.

Secret Agenda, an impressive debut winner at Moonee Valley on December 12, will gallop on the course proper at Caulfield on Tuesday in preparation for her return in the fillies Blue Diamond Prelude.
