Stud Comments
Desert King is a truly elite sire both in Australia and Internationally. He is one of only four stallions standing in Australia to have produced four official champions. Yet he is the only one standing for under $10,000.A Gr.1 winner by Danehill, he has in turn sired Gr.1 winners Makybe Diva, Desert War, Lachlan River, Chelsea Rose, Darsalam, Mr Dinos and outstanding country cups horse of the year in Banana Man. All in all he is responsible for 60 stakes performers and the winners of $60m in prize money.
He is renowned for versatility as a stallion having sired high quality juveniles, sprinters, milers, middle distance runners and of course stayers.
He has sired black type winners in every age classification 2YO – 6YO and is a model of consistency as 57% of runners are winners.
Desert King is starting to forge a reputation as a fantastic broodmare sire. It's only early days as he is still in his prime , however his daughters have already been responsible for 14 black type horses including two Gr.1 winners such as Oakleigh Plate winner - Eagle Falls. As a broodmare sire he has produce 50% winners to runners.
In 2011 Desert King has been chosen as the sire for Tugela, the dam of Makybe Diva, and hopefully we will see a full brother or sister to the champ this time next year.
