Description

"He has a beautiful temperament, and probably should have won a Railway. A lovely horse, I wish I had him as a 4yo" said Trainer Jim Taylor.

Famous Roman, a 16.2 hh and 575 kg son of the ill fated Danetime, out of Famous Friend who was in turn by Marooned. His career record, stands at 38 starts for 7 wins, 2 second, 5 thirds with stakes earnings of $728,750. He has won over 1300M, 1400M, 1500M, 1600M, and 1800M.

He holds the State Record over 1500M in winning the Group 3 RJ Peters Stakes, defeating subsequent Group 1 winner, Gilded Venom. He sizzled home in 34.43sec for the final 600M, coming from last nearing the home turn. In the lead up to the RJ Peters, he ran a creditable third to Gilded Venom and multiple Group and Listed winner, Megatic in the Group 3 Asian Beau over 1400M. As a 3yo he won the Listed Aquantia Stakes over 1800M defeating Grey Monarch in similar style.

He ventured to Victoria in 2009 for a Winter & Spring campaign under the care of Brian Mayfield-Smith, recording a 3rd in the Listed Winter Championship over 1600M at Flemington behind Gold Salute, and a very credible 4th in the Group 1 Rupert Clarke over 1400M also at Flemington.

Returning to WA, Famous Roman had an outstanding final year of racing as a 6yo. First up he ran second to stable mate Shock Value in the Listed Birthday Stakes over 1200M, then he defeated the local stars of WA Racing in the Listed Northerly Stakes over 1400M, followed by victory in the SWFA Group 2 Lee-Steere Stakes over 1400M. His next race was the $1M Railway Stakes where he was carted wide and came home with the fastest sectional of the field to run second to Gathering.
